Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention

This two-day workshop is specifically designed for mental health professionals who want to gain comprehensive training in Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (BCBT), an outpatient treatment proven to rapidly reduce suicidal ideation and suicide attempts. Unlike traditional approaches that focus on treating mental health disorders, BCBT directly targets the root causes of suicide risk: emotion dysregulation and cognitive inflexibility. Clinical data shows that BCBT can reduce suicide attempts by up to 62% and significantly lower the need for inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. During this workshop, participants will receive detailed instruction on the 12-session BCBT protocol, along with practical strategies for effective treatment delivery through case examples, role plays, and skills practice.

Crisis Response Plan for Suicide Prevention

Crisis Response Planning (CRP) is an individualized plan designed to help individuals manage suicidal crises. This workshop equips participants with the skills to administer CRP, an evidence-based intervention that can reduce suicide attempts by up to 76% and rapidly decrease suicidal ideation and distress. Initially created for outpatient settings, CRP has been adapted for use in various healthcare and non-healthcare environments, including schools and community organizations. The workshop covers the development and empirical support of CRP, followed by demonstrations and skills practice to ensure participants can effectively implement this intervention. This one-day training is suitable for both mental health providers and non-healthcare professionals.

Lethal Means Safety

Our Lethal Means Safety training is a half-day workshop designed to teach professionals the critical strategies needed to increase secure storage of firearms and other lethal means to help individuals during a suicidal crisis. This evidence-based approach focuses on practical interventions that can be implemented in clinical, community, and home settings to lower the risk of suicide. Participants will learn how to have effective conversations with individuals at risk and their families, and how to develop plans that include voluntary secure storage.

Working with Individuals at Elevated Risk for Suicide via Telehealth

Since the onset of the pandemic, telehealth has rapidly expanded in the mental health field, offering new ways to reduce barriers for both clinicians and patients. However, working with patients at elevated risk for suicide presents unique challenges due to the complexities of managing risk remotely. This one-day training focuses on advanced skills and best practices for using telehealth with high-risk individuals. Building on foundational knowledge, the course will provide an in-depth review of key concepts while expanding on critical skills. Training includes interactive case examples and participants will learn practical strategies they can immediately apply in clinical practice.

Suicide Risk Assessment

This half-day training provides a practical and holistic framework for suicide risk assessment, equipping clinicians with the latest best practices. Participants will learn to identify critical risk factors, warning signs, protective factors, and activating events, alongside a review of key individual symptoms. Through interactive case studies, clinicians will develop skills to synthesize and document assessments effectively, using actionable strategies for real-world application. The training emphasizes comprehensive care, focusing on accurate documentation to ensure a thorough and informed approach to managing suicide risk.
